A sump pump is a very important piece of equipment you need to know you can count on in order to prevent an issue with your basement flooding. As important as your sump pump is, you need to know what to look for in order to know when it is time to replace it. If you miss the signs, then you might end up finding yourself with a big mess in the basement that can cause a lot of issues for you. Here are some of the signs to watch for in order to know when it may be time for you to have your sump pump replaced.
The sump pump constantly cycles
If you see that your sump pump is constantly cycling on and off, then this can indicate that it is having issues that may mean you should have it replaced. This can be a common sign that a sump pump is on its last legs. Instead of cycling over and over, the sump pump may just stay on all of the time all of a sudden, and this is also problematic.
The sump pump is making weird noises
It's normal for a sump pump to make some noises. However, it's the type of noises that you are hearing that can warn you that trouble is looking. You don't want to hear a rattling sound suddenly start coming from it. Some of the other noises that you aren't going to want to hear include grinding sounds, thumping noises, or any noises that it has never made before but is now making. Your sump pump might also start vibrating constantly every time it is running. This can be indicative of damaged impellers. When damaged, it can cause this constant vibration and if this happens, then you want to take it as a sign that your sump pump should be replaced.
The sump pump has rust
If you see that there is rust on the sump pump, then this is a bad thing and it means that it is time for you to go ahead and have that sump pump replaced with a new one. Once the rust is there, it is only going to get worse and it can cause a problem with the drainage system water flow.
Now that you know some of the things that you should be watching for with regards to your sump pump, you will be able to catch issues and get a new sump pump before you end up in a bad situation.
